Right, that’s better! OK, spray air fresheners.

First, let us be clear…

There’s a few types of spray air fresheners out there. To keep it simple (and to ensure I don’t run out of tea) let’s stick to the two most popular. There are aerosol air fresheners for example, Autosmart Berry Blast. We like to reference these bad boys as car deodorants. Why? Because we’re cool.

The other type of spray car air freshener is the liquid spray type freshener. For example, Autoglym Autofresh. Now I’m sure there’s a more technical term than ‘liquid spray’ but I’m writing this at 9am. I’ve not yet had my cornflakes. Obviously.

Right then! Now that we’ve cleared that smell up (get it? I know… Rubbish.) Let’s move on!

How do I get the best from my liquid spray air freshener?

Well, fortunately, it’s actually really simple! No need for witchcraft to get them to work at their best. It’s just a simple case of good technique! We’ve had plenty of practice too…

Ok, first let’s imagine we’re using Autoglym Autofresh. To get the best from this awesome air freshener, there’s a couple of things you can do. First, sing your favorite Lady Gaga song. I’m joking… You was going to do it wasn’t you!!? Ha! Ok, seriously this time…

Spray a 2-3 squirts on each of your car mats (including the drivers) ensuring that you’re spraying around 30cm away from the mat itself to get good coverage and to avoid stains. If you’ve mats in the back, give those a good spray too.

Note: Please do this next one at your own risk! It works brilliantly but please be careful. We can not accept responsibility for damage to your car based on this suggestion.

Ok, now the legal ‘don’t sue us’ stuff is out the way, let’s crack on! It can be great to spray one or two sprays of your liquid air freshener directly in to your air vents in the dashboard too. (we recommend you’re best to use the vents closest to the doors) It further enhances the distribution of fragrance around the car and ensures each spray lasts as long as possible too! “What can I do to make my car air freshener last longer?”

…I hear you cry? Well, if that’s your question, here’s your answer!

There’s noting you can do… Nothing at all…

Ok, we’re pulling your leg! Actually, there’s FIVE things that we recommend you do to give your car air freshener immortality. (Not really. It will just last longer than before.) Ready? Good.

1) Keep it out of the sun

First thing first, car air fresheners can’t get a tan. Well, we don’t sell or know of any that do. In fact, keeping them in the sun quickly dries them out! If they’re dry, they stop pouring out their lush fragrance. We recommend buying your car air freshener some sunglasses and a bottle of factor 30. Yep, that should do it!

Ok, seriously now… (he he) try and park your car in shaded areas, or if that’s not possible, and if your car air freshener is a Magic Tree or something similar, hang it off your indicator stalk instead of your rear-view mirror until the sun eases off. Then you can whack it out again and get yourself some more nose candy.

2) Keep them moist. (No giggling at the back!)

If they’ve dried out, then they’re probably dead. However, we know CPR for car air fresheners so there’s a chance they can be rescued!

Assuming that your car air freshener has only recently dried out and isn’t the same age as France, you could still get some more awesomeness from your car air freshener yet by making it a tad damp. We recommend you use a basic spray bottle to administer the CPR – I mean, moisture. A few sprays either side should do it!

Now, if you don’t have such tools like a spray bottle then you’re a loser. (Not really!) a few drops of water to either side of the air freshener should be ok too. It’s not as cool as a spray bottle, though.

Smell that? It smells like awesome! (By the way, you don’t need to do compressions on your air freshener, ok?)

3) Keep them away from your cars air vents

If you’ve not gathered, car air fresheners hate heat! (Fussy buggers aren’t they.) Well, all except the liquid ones like Ambi-Pur and car air fresheners designed specifically for the vents. So it’s a good idea to keep them away from your air vents to stop them from drying out. They should be ok when you’re using the cool air blowers in the Summer or on warmer days. Not so good when you’re using the heaters in the Winter, though!

4) Rotate the pads

If you have a car air freshener like one from California Scents then it’s a good idea to rotate the pads or blocks inside the tin to get a access to more lovely fragrance! Don’t be afraid to get in there and have a rummage. You may find some treasure! (We doubt it, though. First dibs if you do!)

Note: If you’ve sensitive or broken skin, we recommend you wear gloves or something protective to stop the fragrance from irritating your skin. (We’re now officially doctors ‘cos we’re giving awesome medical advice.)

5) Easy on the throttle!

What happens when you floor the throttle in your car? Well, besides getting your self 3 points and a £60 fine, you’ll also burn much more fuel too. (Theres a link in here somewhere)

The same applies to your car air freshener. Well, not the fine, or the points. or the fuel? Ok, scrap that…

If your car air freshener has a vented lid and you open your car air freshener to level 11, it’s going to burn out quickly! Open it just a little and increase the ‘volume’ if you want more fragrance.

Oh yeah, we got skills! That’s all our tips to extend the life of your treasured air freshener and as a benefit, it’ll save you money too! We’re awesome. Aren’t we.

1) They smell JUST like Bakewell tarts!

Who doesn’t love bakewell tarts! (If you say you don’t like them, you’re not invited to our party. Ok?) Even if you’re not a fan of glacier cherries, you can always pull them off and give it to the dog or something, allowing you to get access to the awesomeness thats left! Mr. Kipling? You’re a legend… Anyway, I digress. Our point is, they smell amazing and that’s one of the reasons why the Coronado Cherry is such a popular fragrance.

2) They last ages, they could probably outlive your hamster

(Ok, we’re obviously exaggerating), but they do last a heck of a long time! Cheap car air fresheners have normally died and are only worthy of the bin after just a month or so. (Why do so many people have knackered fresheners still hanging of their rear view mirrors?!) Not with California Scents – Coronado Cherry! Oh no, some of our customers have told us that these bad boys (or girls, we’re not sexist) have been known to still crack out great fragrance up to 3 months after opening!

The fragrance itself is very strong hence why they last so long. Simply opening one of these beauties and turning it to level 11 is not recommended! Well, unless you’ve a dead body in the boot and you need to overpower the smell! (Graphic, I know, but you my drift!)

In order for you to achieve 3 months+ of lovely fragrance, we suggest you open it and only leave a small gap in the vented lid. Too much of a gap and you’ll start smelling fragrance with your eyes and ears! Ok, it’s not that strong, but to get the best out of it, you’re best to release the fragrance slowly. Trust us when we say even opening it up a little will provide your car with plenty of pleasant fragrance to fill your car. Don’t underestimate the Coronado Cherry. It’s awesome and it’s also our favorite too!
